The short version
- The Long Term gives guidance, not regulated financial advice.
- We never hold or move your money, and we don't connect to your bank.
- You can delete your account at any time.
- If we ever charge, you'll agree the price first and can change your mind within 14 days.
01About these terms
These terms are the agreement between you and The Long Term Limited ("we", "us") for your use of The Long Term: our website and our app. By creating an account you agree to them, so please read them. If you don't agree, please don't use The Long Term.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your personal data. It forms part of this agreement.
02What The Long Term is, and what it isn't
The Long Term helps you understand how you think and act with money, builds a plan around the goals you set, and breaks it into Money Moves: one clear step at a time.
- It is guidance, not regulated financial advice. We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). We don't recommend specific investments, pensions, insurance or other financial products, and nothing we show you is a personal recommendation to buy or sell one.
- We never hold, move or have access to your money. We don't connect to your bank. We only know the figures you choose to type in.
- The decisions are yours. For big or complex decisions, such as pensions, investments, mortgages or tax, speak to a regulated financial adviser. Free, impartial guidance is also available from MoneyHelper.
03Who can use it
- You must be 18 or over.
- The Long Term is built around UK money rules (such as ISAs, pensions and tax bands), so it is designed for people living in the UK. If you use it from elsewhere, parts of it may not apply to you.
- You can only have one account, and it's for your personal use.
04Your account
- Give us accurate information and keep it up to date. Your plan is only as good as the figures behind it.
- Keep your sign-in details private. You're responsible for what happens under your account, so tell us straight away if you think someone else has used it.
- If you sign in with Google, your Google account's security also protects your Long Term account.
05Using The Long Term fairly
Please don't:
- break the law, or use The Long Term to harm anyone
- try to get into other people's accounts or data, or into parts of our systems you aren't meant to reach
- copy, scrape, reverse-engineer or resell The Long Term or its content
- overload, disrupt or probe our systems, except under responsible disclosure as set out on our Security page
06The limits of any plan
Your plan and Money Moves are produced by our software. They are based on the information you give us and on general assumptions, for example about inflation, interest and investment growth. Real life won't match those assumptions exactly. Rules and allowances change, and software can get things wrong.
So please treat what you see as a well-informed starting point, not a guarantee. Check anything important before you act on it, especially where a lot of money or a long-term commitment is involved. If something looks wrong, tell us and we'll look into it.
07Price
The Long Term is currently free to use. If we introduce paid plans, we'll tell you the price clearly before you're asked to pay. You'll never be charged without agreeing to it first.
If you do take out a paid plan, you'll have 14 days from the day you sign up to change your mind and get a full refund. You can cancel at any time after that, and the plan will end at the close of the period you've already paid for.
08Ours and yours
- Yours: the information you put into The Long Term stays yours. You allow us to use it only to provide the service to you, as our Privacy Policy describes.
- Ours: The Long Term itself, including its software, design, content, name and logo, belongs to us or the people we license it from. You may use your own plan and Money Moves for your personal use, but please don't copy or republish The Long Term's content.
09Changes to The Long Term and these terms
We keep improving The Long Term, so features will change over time. We may also need to update these terms, for example when the law changes.
If a change to these terms matters to you, we'll email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you don't agree with it, you can close your account before then.
10Ending this agreement
- You can stop using The Long Term and delete your account at any time from the app's settings.
- We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if the law requires us to. Unless it's urgent or we're legally prevented, we'll tell you why and, where it makes sense, give you a chance to put things right first.
- We may decide to close The Long Term altogether. If we do, we'll give you at least 60 days' notice, so you have time to note down anything you need.
11Our responsibility to you
We'll provide The Long Term with reasonable care and skill. If we don't, and you suffer a loss that was a foreseeable result of that, we're responsible for it.
We're not responsible for:
- losses caused by decisions you make about your money. The Long Term gives guidance, not advice, and the choices remain yours
- results that are wrong because the information you gave us was wrong or out of date
- losses we couldn't reasonably have foreseen, or events outside our reasonable control
- business losses. The Long Term is for personal use only
Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility where the law doesn't allow it to be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. Nothing affects your legal rights as a consumer.
12Complaints
If something isn't right, email info@thelongterm.co.uk. We'll acknowledge your complaint within two working days and aim to resolve it within 14 days.
13The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim there.
If a court decides that part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
